Puppet Show Mystery in Joyville is a puzzle adventure game that takes place in the town of Joyville, where you've been called up to investigate the disappearance of a boy named Simon. Joyville used to be a lively, happy place, a touristic attraction known by the magnificent puppet shows performed in the theater by The Master. One day during a performance, a fire ravaged the theater causing the death of the Master and many of the people attending the show. Strange events have been occurring in town since the fire, causing the disappearance of 19 people. Joyville inhabitants believe that evil spirits show up at dark, what make them stay indoors before sunset. They think the theater is cursed, and fear that the Master's spirit might be responsible for these disappearances. But it is your task to find out the truth behind this case, and bring Simon back home.
You settle in the town's hotel, and start your investigation through the dark streets of the town to ascertain Simon's whereabouts. Game scenes present the typical puzzle gameplay; you need to examine with the mouse every area paying special attention to the cursor's changes as these will indicate 'active zones', that is, areas that you have to look into. Most of the time, you will be playing hidden-object scenes and mini games, while interacting with the environment by using the elements collected. As the story develops and you complete scenes, other areas in town will be unlocked, allowing you to go back and forth from one place to the other.
Artwork through the game is exquisite, it recreates a fantastic theatrical environment in a quite lively way and every detail seems to have been carefully worked out. Music is also great and atmospheric, adding just the right level of mystery to a game that is sure to entertain you for hours. |
